DAY 6 .
Monday, January 12, 2009

Srry ah , my cam the thingie a bit spoiled so i no mor photos =( . Yahlah , so juz a short reflection bah .

Day six should be the orphanage one... yea.

I could remember it so clearly because i remembered that Mrs Wong said on the bus,"The main point of this trip is CIP so we would like to have more time at the orphanage." Or smth along that line. Not that I got any objections or what. haha.

At the orphanage i must say i really spent a great time there. Initially i thought it would be so dull and boring.. like,"sian orphanage ah. aiyo." but my thoughts changed when i played with the children, one child even climbed out of the... bed-secured-cage-thing-bed, then ran towards me and banged me from behind. o_O. then he fell down. aiyo. but very funny also, the part where he knocked into me. woooo i like.

then i played with the children at the play-room..idk what that is called so srry. they play with me until i very happy. i make balloon also until very happy. didnt see children laugh till so happy for a longlong time le. the only thing i hated is the friggin mosquitos that bit me. THREE / FOUR BITES SOMEMORE. maybe five. around there la. IRRITATING MOSQUITOS. like that time when i JUST entered the Cu Chi Tunnel, not even iside, i just entered that area... A MOSQUITO FLEW ONTO MY ARM AND TRIED TO BITE ME . heng i see and MASSACRED it in time. i feel happy. it had blood inside. human blood o_O.

yea overall it was very fun. then somewhere around that day we went to the day bazaar. oh ya. the air in vietnam is beyond godlike that day. hahaha. i feel that we should be given more time, + given a better place to do our shopping. nothing much to buy...

k then we went to the airport. the sandwiches were a bit weird but okay. then the flight home... i rly miss vietnam xD. i played Pokemon Gold on the plane. hehheh.........

Day 5
Thursday, January 1, 2009

the day started on a low note as some of our friends had to stay in the hotel to rest as they were not feeling well
nevertheless, the rest of us went ahead as planned to the Mekong Region
we had to endure a 2 hours bus ride, and also a short boat trip to the destination
a view from the boat
our destination - Mekong Region
we got the chance to taste their fresh tropical fruits, and also some local snacks honey tea and some preserved fruits
brave dave!

we also sat on the "sam pan" back to the jetty from deep in the island
the river was filled with dirty water, filled with mud beneath
a "sam pan" stuck in the waters

we had lunch at the Trung Luong restaurant, where we were served with 2 special dishes we've never come across in Singapore
they are the elephant-ear fish, and also sticky rice ball elephant-ear fish
From this big to ...
this small...
after lunch, we went to the war historical museum, where we learnt about the war era in vietnam
entrace of the war historical museum
we saw the harsh conditions in which they lived in, but which they managed to cope with
in this museum, we were also treated to a water puppet show
it was rumoured to be a form of entertainment for the emperor in the past
i do not really understand the performance as it was all in vietnamese
what i saw were only fishermen and water creatures swimming around in the water
but these puppets were actually controlled by puppeteers underwater

sea creatures plaing hide-and-seek
fishermen on a boat
the puppeteers!
Next, we travelled to the handicap centre to visit them
they were busy with their own handicrafts
despite their disabilities, they are still able to work, which is truly commendable
And lastly for the day, we ate our dinner in a restaurant named "Red House (Singapore)"
it is said to be the only Singapore restaurant in Vietnam
some of us thought that we were in for a treat, with crabs and other seafood
however, they were not served
instead, some well-known Singapore dishes were served, like fried rice, sambal "kang kong", etc
we even packed food back to the hotel for the sick students
we dragged our tired bodies back to the hotel for a debrief, and also a final preparation for our "item" at the orphanage
in conclusion, Day 5 was the day where it was fun-filled with programes
i learnt many new things and it was an eye opener for some of the programmes
i really enjoyed myself that day

Day 4
Wednesday, December 17, 2008

The morning was bright, with scorching sun but there was something different from Singapore. It was the cold wind. Nice weather! We slept through the bus journey which brought us to the Bao Dai's Villas..
It's a French colonial architecture. How can we possible miss this since it was one of the last few remaining in Vietnam! Opened our sleepy eyes and walked towards that villa. It was built as a holiday resort for the last Vietnamese King Bao Dai and Queen Nam Phuong. It was built in 1923 but their bedrooms, washrooms, furnitures, comparing with the current ones in that area, it really look majestic. Argh.. I don't have the patience to explain anymore.. Let the pictures describe later on..
So what we experienced?
Before we could enter, we had to put on this elastic clothed shoe which allowed us to glide across the rooms. Beware of steps! U may slide of it, and friends surrounding that moster, halt! Stand clear of him! Else u'll all glide like how Tom Chased Jerry. Hehe.. That's exaggerated.
Much of the furnitures were wooden, rooms after rooms, size differs.
Everything looked the same despite searching high and low for something interesting. But can you ever imagine that in 1923, a fire extinguisher was already invented? And has not changed at all? Still the same shape, same method of operating, same metal- I suppose. Cool Beans. Then again, it was enclosed in a wooden box. If only tree trunks could photosynthesize, maybe global warming wouldn't be as serious.
Then there was a balcony. Nice scenery with sea breeze all year round as it overlooked the South China Sea. The greeneries were really pleasing. Yes. The grass is greener on the other side.

Vietnam is really FUN! =D
After appreciating the villa, we took a long bus ride back to Saigon.
No more cold winds! Good Bye Dalat! ^.4
Yay! Ellice enjoyed in Vietnam!

DAY 3

day 3 - done by BRIDGET ANG & SIBYL TEO
We were going to visit the Bui Thi Xuan School today!
From the outside, the school looked really pleasant and it was a huge space for a school too.

We were greeted by students as we entered the school hall.

We were also served a fruit similar to oranges and some cream puff which were delicious.

After that was the exchange of 'Hello' amongst both schools!

The students dance club also performed for us!
After that we performed the chicken dance for them, and they all joined along! :D
After that we had an English lesson together with the students. We were taught about various things and the students are really quite good in English despite it being a foreign language!

That's their teacher.
-----------------------------------------------------------
sweet break
We were then brought to a shop that sold several sweets for us to buy back as souvenirs.
Yum :D
"wine"
Orange juice!
----------------------------------------------------
strawberry plucking
After that was a short session of plucking strawberries from a farm!
But we were only allowed to pluck them, and not eat them because they had insecticides on them that had to be washed first.
The strawberries!
---------------------------------------------------------
Lat village
We journeyed to visit a small village nearby the town later for our CIP! The village was very surreal as it looks nothing compared to Singapore and the people even lived in houses built with wood!
That's one of their funky inventions! A backpack!
That's their leader who was a bit drunk but he was very nice :) He called us his nieces. Oh well.

He even sang for us :D

After that when the rain stopped, we headed out to built the fence that would be able to keep the wild animals from straying into their living area.
We had to chop the wood to make it have sharp ends so as to be able to push it through the mud.
Mr Hazry showing off! (haha)
Everyone did their part in everyway. The females mainly just helped to carry the wood or tie the wood together with wire.
In the process!
We even saw horses on the way back!
---------------------------------------------------
All in all, this experience was definitely worth it as it is after all a once in a lifetime experience, to do CIP in Vietnam. Most of the time people would only think of Vietnam as some place where you'll be able to get cheap goods. But I think there's more to it then just a cheap place to have a holiday in. There's villages to explore, lands to travel and so many other things to enjoy other than just the shopping. The people are also really accepting and nice even though we were a bit unfamiliar with their lifestyles. I really thank the school for giving all of us an opportunity to travel to such a place to experience life in a different manner. I will definitely remember this trip and return to Vietnam to visit the other side. Who knows? :)
